Alejandro Ahmed was born in 1971 in Montevideo, Uruguay, and grew up in Brazil. He studied classical ballet and jazz with renowned teachers such as Ismael Guiser, Ivonice Satie, and Roseli Rodrigues. In 1993, he became resident choreographer, artistic director, and dancer with Grupo Cena 11, which he founded in 1988. Alejandro Ahmed has developed a unique technique called “physical perception” that focuses on the body as the starting point for dance rather than forcing it to adapt to predefined techniques. He has collaborated with choreographers and artists such as Lia Rodrigues, Hooman Sharifi, Rodrigo Pederneiras, and Volmir Cordeiro. His works are distinguished by their exploration of the limits of the body and its interactions with the environment, using elements such as sound, video, and everyday objects.
Alejandro Ahmed has been the director of Balé da Cidade de São Paulo since 2021.
