Rings
Between encounters and friction, seduction and combat, duets are created in a closed-door space, putting aptitudes relating to various artistic fields to the test.
““Rings” creates a situation that mixes chaos and determination, from which the question of otherness emerges. Taking as a starting point the ring symbolising union and the circle symbolising combat, the piece expresses the risk of being together and tries to transform apprehension into a movement of creative imbalance.
I won’t name the mythical figures and histories which inspired the work but I like that they are there implicitly, that their ghosts are leaning on our shoulders. “Rings” was created in four weeks, following a change of the set design and its designer. The space and the first duet were completely reconsidered. Indeed, “Rings” is a succession of duels which I wanted to stage, with the idea of engaging in combat, no truces, no respite, with the bodies being put in danger. There is no end to these confrontations. We remain in a night in which each step reveals an instinctive and absolute energy, a ring of initiation.”
