Scena madre*
Created for the 71st edition of the Avignon Festival, Mistral High School Gymnasium, July 7, 2017
Intrigue, suspense, and gentle madness… A universe that is almost Hitchcockian, and at other times, totally surreal. Starting with an initial sequence that is constantly repeated, added to, and recomposed through more or less random assemblages, Ambra Senatore, together with the six performers who surround her, composes a particularly lively canvas. The subtle interweaving of movement, snippets of text, and layers of music revives the mystery without ever losing sight of the mysterious thread.
In Scena Madre*, the absurd and the logical go hand in hand in a game that is part exquisite corpse, part charade, and part rebus.
Built like a film, Scena madre* ironically explores our most everyday experience: living with others.
