Touch me lightly
In 2015, Jérôme Combier and Alban Richard created the piece Dawnlight in association with Cairn, Ircam and the Théâtre d’Orléans. In 2016, Alban Richard, then the new director of the CCN in Caen, invited Jérôme Combier to join him as a fellow artist at the Normandy institution.
For the 2018-19 season, Alban Richard and Jérôme Combier are devising a new project based on the music of Tobias Hume, drawing on the collection of viola da gamba pieces: Musicall Humours, published in 1605 by the Scottish musician, who was also a mercenary, and comprising more than 117 pieces. The title of this project is taken from one of the pieces in the collection: Touch me lightly.
Frédéric Baldassare, cellist with the Cairn ensemble, is equally at home playing Baroque and Renaissance music. For this project, he takes on the dialogue between the 17th century English Renaissance and the contemporary era on a single instrument.
