In 2021 Grenade celebrated its 30th anniversary.
The company’s eleven dancers were the first to celebrate this event with this new creation. I first submitted to them questionnaires about events related to the health crisis we were going through: is it that this particular period has generated in them disorders, loss of bearings, questioned? How did their bodies evolve?
The general idea was to put them at the center of the project by letting their creativity express itself around a central theme that I proposed, Phoenix.
“From shadow to light”, “from trance to ecstasy”, “from confinement to openness” are the themes explored in three scenes. A way to tap into the power of energy, to burn the past to shape the future with bodies nourished by all kinds of influences choreographies, with unfailing generosity.
From their compositions, I found links, transitions, a coherence born of what they expressed and the various paintings they developed. The stage is empty of everything, won over by the emptiness of confinement. The light chisels the space according to the paintings with dark, unreal and intimate atmospheres and accompanies the dancers in trance and ecstasy.
